I recently discovered I’m a hypocrite

My f*ck-up story.
2

While hosting a workshop on doing customer interviews, I met a Dutch founder who runs a podcast titled “It always leaks at the plumber’s home”.

It’s a Dutch saying, kind of similar to the idiom ‘The shoemaker’s children go barefoot’ or ‘the builder’s home is never finished’1

He interviews experts to spot defects that they professionally spot with others. The idea stuck with me.

I’m recently updating my website and value proposition as a startup mentor.
Making my landing page, I was struggling to describe my offer. What actually is the job to be done? Why do founders hire me?

I realised it was leaking at my home. Ironically, I didn’t do customer interviews too often. Rich, coming from me, right? Almost felt a bit awkward to share this here, as I’m always drilling down on it.

It’s so easy to forget to prioritise it. But the amount of learnings I got from the talks I had is amazing.

Practice what you preach. But also, talk to customers.

Quick tips on customer debrief interviews

Something extra for the patrons, thanks for making this possible, you folks!
